Guinness Nigeria Plc, in partnership with the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) and Diageo in Lagos kicked off this year’s ‘Ember Months’ Responsibility Drinking Awareness Campaign, aimed at enlightening the public on the harmful consequences of alcohol abuse during the last quarter of the year through to the holiday season.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director/Chief Executive of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Baker Magunda, said the company was committed to responsible drinking and enlightening the public about the values of responsible alcohol consumption; hence this period, referred to as the ‘ember months,’ is crucial for increasing awareness about safety on the roads to ensure that Nigerians have an accident free experience.

He said this year’s edition was the 14th edition of the partnership between Guinness and FRSC in the campaigns on responsible drinking. FRSC Sector Commander for Lagos State, Hyginus Omeje, commended Guinness for donating the breathalyser kits and its giant strides in the past 14 years to create awareness around responsible drinking and safety on the roads, especially during the Yuletide season.

FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer, John Meheux, said the partnership was proof that road safety should be a shared responsibility, urging other notable brands and organisations to emulate Guinness Plc in that regard.

The campaign, held at the Mangoro Asade Motor Park in Lagos, had in attendance, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), FRSC in Lagos State, among others.
