Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped the All Progressives Congress Chairman in Ward 9, Orhionmwon Council of Edo State, Mr Godwin Aigbogun.

It was gathered that Aigbogun was kidnapped on Monday at Ologbo-nugu community on his way from the farm.

The gunmen reportedly emerged from the bush, forced the victim’s vehicle to a halt at gunpoint and whisked him into the bush.

It was learnt that gunmen, who constantly kidnap people on the road and on their farms, have endangered the area.

A member of the community, Godwin Erhahon, former publicity secretary of the APC, confirmed the incident.

He said: “I was informed yesterday (Monday) that Aigbogun was kidnapped by herdsmen while coming from the farm,” saying the kidnappers were yet to make contact with family members. He called on the police to ensure the release of the victim.

When contacted, a police spokesperson in the state, SP. Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident.

He said the police have been informed about the abduction and that his command’s crack team, Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit, had been mobilised to the scene and had embarked on bush combing with the aim of rescuing the victim unhurt and arresting the suspects.
