Gunmen free club owner, abduct wife, 74-year-old in-law
Kidnappers, at the weekend, released a popular nightclub owner, Tari Ajanami, but abducted his wife and 74-old-year-old father-in-law, who had gone to drop the ransom demanded.
The kidnappers were said to have detained his 38-year-old wife, Christiana, and her 74-year-old father over claims that the N15 million ransom paid was a far cry from the N200 million ransom demanded.
Recall that the 43-year-old club owner, Ajanami, was abducted a fortnight ago at his building site in the Otiotio area of the state capital, but was released at an exchange point in Ahaoda in the Ahaoda Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that the ransom exchange occurred at about 11.45 p.m. and was kept secret from the authorities of the Bayelsa State Police Command and friends of the victim.
However, things took a dramatic turn when the kidnappers insisted on the completion of the demanded N200 million and detained his wife and father-in-law.
A family source, who spoke in confidence, expressed concern over the new development, revealing that the abducted wife of the club owner has High Blood Pressure (HBP) and was not with her drugs at the point of abduction.
“We are, however, waiting to hear from the kidnappers. We learned their satellite mobile phone gadget, popularly referred to as Turaya, fell into the water during the ransom exchange.
“You know N15 million was taken to the ransom exchange point. The kidnappers collected the money and held to the wife and her father to demand more money from the victim. We plead with the kidnappers to tamper justice with mercy,” the source said.
Attempts to confirm the release of the club owner and the abduction of his wife and father-in-law proved abortive as officials of the police command claimed ignorance of the situation.
