Gunmen kill 10, Yari pays condolence visit
Witnesses in the area told The Guardian that the gunmen rode into the village on motorcycles, displaying various dangerous weapons, which included guns, firing indiscriminately and in the process killed ten people while fifteen people sustained various degrees of injuries. The injured are receiving treatment at Kaura Namoda General Hospital.
Alerted by the sounds of gunshots, the residents of the area gallantly attempted to resist the attack, but were over-powered by the superior firepower of gunmen who continued on sporadic shootings aimed at scaring the residents.
Briefing the state governor on the incident yesterday at Dorayi Village when the governor, Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar paid a condolence visit to the community, representative of the District Head, Malam Muhammad, said the suspected gunmen arrived the village late evening and headed straight to the community’s viewing center where they opened fire on anybody seen at the centre.
The Governor, who led a delegation that included some of his cabinet members, police commissioner and other security chiefs and many APC leaders to sympathize with the people of the area announced a donation of N570, 000 to each families of the eleven people killed by the gunmen, and another sum of N150, 000 to each of the 15 other persons injured in the attack.
The governor described the act as unfortunate and barbaric and called on security agencies in the state to intensify efforts in arresting the suspected gunmen, while also calling on the general public to continue praying for peace in the state and across the nation.
Emir of Zurmi Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, while condoling with the families, who lost relations to the barbaric attack, commended Governor Yari for his prompt visit, which showed his concern to the plight of the people of the Emirate and assured him of the Emirate’s continued loyalty to his administration.
