Gunmen on Sunday night attacked and killed two security operatives at Okarki junction in Bayelsa State.
The deceased was a police sergeant and an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Though operatives from the Joint Task Force codenamed “Operation Doo Akpor”, tried to repel the attack, the gunmen escaped into the creeks.
In another incident, a People Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Gbalipre Turner, was abducted in the early hours of yesterday
Chief Turner, a former PDP state treasurer, and father to the chairman of Ogbia Local Government were whisked away at his residence in Sampou Road, Yenagoa, and taken to an unknown destination.
It was gathered that policemen responded swiftly and pursued the kidnappers to Onuebum waterfront, where they abandoned the vehicle used in the kidnap and took away their victim through a speedboat.
Confirming both incidents, spokesman for Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, said the Commissioner of Police, Echeng E. Echeng, has ordered a manhunt to rescue the victim and arrest the fleeing gunmen.
The CP, he said, further appealed to the public to volunteer useful information that would assist the police in its investigation.
