There was pandemonium at the weekend in Ughelli town, Ughelli North Council Area of Delta State, as unknown gunmen shot a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olorogun Ovoke Oshasha.

The Guardian learnt that the gunmen accosted Oshasha, shot him and abandoned him to his fate on the scene of the incident.

The incident occurred at 4:30p.m., while he was driving his Toyota Land cruiser on the Mission Road end of Oniemo Street, Ughelli.

It was also learnt that the gunmen, who drove in a Highlander SUV, opened fire on him from the front windscreen and left him in the pool of his blood.

Eyewitnesses said some sympathisers thereafter rushed Oshasha, who was shot on his chest to the hospital.

Oshasha told journalists on telephone from his hospital bed that he first noticed the Toyota Highlander SUV trailing him from Afisiere Road.

He said he was on his way to pick up invitation cards from a printing press at Oniemo, adding that as he was pulling over at the printing press, the gunmen overtook him and parked in his front.

Oshasha, who said he sensed danger, immediately put his car on reverse gear, but it was too late, as the boys came out of the car with AK47 rifles and shot him.

He said taking him for the dead, the hoodlums took his phones, hand chain, beads and bolted way.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident, said the police were investigating the attack.
