Gunshots, panic as police storm Rimin-Gado’s residence

Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado

Sporadic gunshots, yesterday, caused panic at Yahaya Gusau quarters, as the police laid fresh siege to the residence of Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, the suspended Chairman of Kano Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission.

A witness told The Guardian that the security men were noticed in the community on Sunday night around Rimin-Gado’s residence.

The source revealed that few minutes after the siege, the fully armed security men bombarded the community with gunshots rending the air.

Although the source could not confirm whether the former anti-corruption chairman was arrested or not, he regretted that the security operatives left trauma and untold inconveniences in their trail.

Rimin-Gado could not be reached for reaction, but a source close to him confirmed that he was inside his residence when the operatives stormed the community.

When contacted, spokesman for Kano Police Command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the development and disclosed that the men were at Rimin-Gado’s residence to serve him notice of invitation.

Kiyawa, a Superintendent of Police (SP), stated: “Upon the court judgment that granted the police authority to invite the former anti-corruption chairman, our men were at his residence to serve him letter of invitation. Unfortunately, while the officers were waiting at the front of the house, we heard gunshots coming out of his residence.

“As professionals, our men tactically withdrew from the residence and took cover at a safer place. After some time, we noticed a vehicle came out of Rimin-Gado’s residence and moved out in high speed, after which our men returned to base.”

A Federal High Court, on March 01, 2022, had dismissed Rimin-Gado’s ex parte application seeking restriction of police from arresting or harassing him, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive motion filed before the court.
