Celebrated Nigerian spoken word artist, actor, and director, Ayokunle Alaba Adebayo, popularly known as Haywhy De Rhymer, delivered a performance at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), also known as Grace Chapel for All Nations London, during the Multicultural Sunday service, which was nothing short of spectacular.
Known for his inspirational spoken word artistry, the multi-talented artiste left the congregation in awe with his powerful gospel rhymes that blend his typical style, charisma, eloquence, and professionalism, creating memorable experiences that engage, entertain, and inspire.
The CEO of Career Connect and Reformation Initiative (CCRI), an organisation dedicated to empowering individuals and creating opportunities for community growth, usually weaves narratives that resonate with audiences, often drawing from his faith and personal experiences. His work frequently explores themes of hope, redemption, and empowerment.
Dressed in his native Yoruba Aso-Oke Danshiki style, which he complemented with an Abeti-aja cap, Haywhy De Rhymer thrilled the congregation with his unique blend of African traditional music and culture laced with creativity, passion, and faith.
He kicked off his performance, which often employs the use of poetry and rhythm to convey powerful messages, touching on themes of hope, inspiration, faith, life, and trending issues with these rhymes of motivation and inspiration: “In case you don’t know, so many people are landlords of the cemetery; a lot are tenants of the mortuary; many more are candidates of obituary, but yet we are worshippers in his sanctuary.
“Because his love has been keeping us right from January, coupled with his goodness written in our diary, and all this God has done without collecting a salary. Instead of complaining about your situation, why not see many struggling to be in your position? Even if you cannot thank God for what he delivered to you as provision, why not thank him for what he delivered you from as protection? I mean those testimonies that are far beyond human comprehension.
“Remember when the enemies wanted you in great lamentation, God stepped in with his divine intervention and ended your mystery like slave trade abolition. So praise him with a shout of acclamation; sing for joy in a loud ovation. Gain his attention and become the centre of attraction, because no matter how critical your situation may be, if not for God, it could have been worse,” he reeled out in a comical tone.
The RCCG (Grace Chapel for All Nations) London’s Multicultural Sunday is about dissolving differences and highlighting unity in diversity. It’s a major event in the church calendar that celebrates the diversity of its congregation, and Haywhy De Rhymer’s performance was a fitting addition to the celebration.
