Hoodlums attack courts, cart away case files in Benue
Heavily armed hoodlums in the early hours of yesterday invaded three law courts in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, carting away case files and other items.
The criminals who invaded High Court 9, Chief Magistrate Court 1 and the Upper Area Court shot sporadically into the air to scare people before carrying out their act.
The ordeal was narrated to the state,s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Michael Gusa while conducting him round the premises by the magistrate in charge of Chief Magistrate Court 1, Isaac Ajim. He said the criminals broke into the court room and the chambers, carted away computers, one printer, a generator and window curtains as well as files for already disposed and pending cases.
At High Court 9, presided over by wife of the deputy governor, Justice Mary Abounu, they carted away a refrigerator, three stabilizers, a computer set, window blinds. They left behind empty bottles of drinks.
At the Upper Area Court, the registrar, Mrs. Sarah Gboji, told the commissioner that the gang made away with N280, 000 and done with their mission, locked up the court entrance with their own padlock.
