The Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu (FNHE), has lauded the Federal Government for the deliberate funding of the hospital. They said proper funding of the hospital in the last three years had led to the development and expansion of services, adding that it had lifted the ranking of the tertiary health institution.

The Medical Director of the Hospital, Prof. Monday Igwe, told reporters in Enugu while giving an account of his stewardship that the Federal Government’s support to reposition the institution and psychiatric healthcare delivery had been unprecedented.

He expressed the hospital’s gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for COVID-19 intervention projects that have changed the narrative in the institution even as he listed about 40 projects, programmes and training executed in the past three years.

He noted that the greatest achievement was the restoration of peace and harmony between management and among various cadres of staff in the hospital.

Igwe listed provision of water and electricity as some of the major challenges facing the hospital.

“Water remains a big challenge as we have to buy all the water used by staff and patients daily. Another challenge is that of distractions by faceless, baseless, unverifiable and fictitious online publications,” he said.

He used the opportunity to decry the activities of some disgruntled staff of the hospital, which he lamented had continued to cause distractions in the affairs of the health institution.

Igwe said such staff engaged in distractions with faceless, baseless, unverifiable and fictitious publications to cause disaffection to the hospital, thereby ridiculing the image of one of the best psychiatric hospitals in Nigeria.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Joint Health Sector Union, (JOHESU) in the hospital, Comrade Friday Odubara said there had been a lot of infrastructural development in the hospital under Prof. Igwe’s administration.

“These are evidence of the peaceful atmosphere in the hospital. The new management team sees the welfare of workers as paramount,” he said.

He advised aggrieved workers to reexamine themselves and check if they were bridging due process.

“But as the workers leader, I can tell you that the workforce is happy with the management under Prof. Igwe. Service delivery to the patients is adequate. Can you imagine that the 2022 promotions have been done and fully implemented in last month’s salary and even the arrears of January to March was paid alongside,” he said
