House of Representatives Committee on Nigerian Navy has assured the Naval Command of improved allocation to boost infrastructure development and enable NNS Jubilee, Ikot Abasi, move to its permanent site in Akwa Ibom State.

House of Representatives Committee on Nigerian Navy has assured the Naval Command of improved allocation to boost infrastructure development and enable NNS Jubilee, Ikot Abasi, move to its permanent site in Akwa Ibom State.

Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, gave the assurance while speaking with journalists after touring the facilities of Forward Operating Base (FOB), Ibaka, and NNS Jubilee in Ikot Abasi, yesterday.

He said the committee was satisfied with infrastructure development of the Eastern Naval Command, especially NNS Jubilee Ikot Abasi and FOB Ibaka all in Akwa Ibom.

“On the achievements of the Nigerian Navy in all the places we visited, particularly NNS Victory, NNS Jubilee, FOB Ibaka in the Eastern Naval Command, they are doing well.

“We have to make sure we have the statutory mandate of allocating funds to the Nigerian Navy to do the needful by making sure resources are allocated to some of these Forward Operating Bases,” he said.

The committee chairman commended the Navy for its efforts in reducing maritime crimes within its area of operation. He said: “If you look at the level of arrests made in terms of apprehending smugglers, in terms of reducing maritime crimes; and looking at flashpoints, areas where their platforms are not able to cover, and what the alternative solutions provided to close those gaps are, we give it to them.

“This committee is very happy with the Eastern Naval Command and we will continue to do our best by discharging our constitutional functions of allocating funds to them.”
