HP recognizes Slum2School Africa as winner of its 2025 Global Digital Equity prize

In a global announcement by HP, Nigeria’s leading education nonprofit is recognized for transforming access to digital learning and STEM education across underserved communities.

In a global press release issued by HP Inc. and the HP Foundation, Slum2School Africa has been named as a 2025 winner of the 2025 HP Digital Equity Accelerator Prize, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria’s education innovation landscape and reaffirming the organization’s position as a trailblazer in Africa’s digital education movement.

The prize, presented to a highly selective cohort from Greece, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Spain, celebrates bold and scalable nonprofit solutions tackling digital inequity in underserved communities around the world. Each selected organization receives a support package worth over $200,000, which includes $100,000 in HP technology, capacity-building grants, and six months of high-level virtual training, executive mentorship, and collaborative programming to support sustainable scale and innovation.

From its early grassroots movement in 2012, Slum2School Africa has evolved into one of the continent’s most impactful education nonprofits, focused on bridging the gap between privilege and potential. At its core is a mission to ensure that every child—regardless of geography or background—has access to quality education and digital opportunity.

Over the last decade, Slum2School has supported hundreds of thousands of children across Nigeria through dynamic, community-rooted education interventions powered by technology, innovation, and volunteerism. Its STEM & Innovation Program has empowered thousands of learners in slums and rural areas with training in coding, robotics, design thinking, and artificial intelligence—preparing them with the tools they need to succeed in the 21st century.

“In a world increasingly shaped by technology, digital access has become the great equalizer—or the greatest divider,” said Orondaam Otto, Founder and Executive Director of Slum2School Africa. “To be recognized by HP, a global leader in innovation, affirms that our local solutions have global relevance. This award accelerates our vision of building a world where no child is left behind—technologically, socially, or educationally.”

Slum2School’s Virtual Learning Program, developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, emerged as one of the continent’s most successful education continuity responses for children in low-income communities. The program delivered a hybrid learning model through virtual classrooms, mobile tablets, home learning kits, and data access—ensuring thousands of children remained connected to certified educators and psychosocial support systems.

As the world confronts a $1 trillion+ digital divide—which continues to hinder equitable access to education and economic opportunity—HP’s global commitment through the Digital Equity Accelerator comes as a timely and strategic intervention.

Since 2022, the initiative has supported 27 nonprofits across eight countries and helped them expand their reach to over 9 million people.

“The future of work depends on equitable access to technology, digital skills, and opportunity,” said Michele Malejki, Global Head of Social Impact, HP Inc., and Executive Director, HP Foundation. “Through the Digital Equity Accelerator, HP is empowering nonprofits to bridge the digital divide, ensuring disconnected adolescents and adults have the tools and training needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world. By investing in these organizations, we are not just expanding access—we are powering the future of work.”

“This prize is not just for our team—it is for the millions of children who wake up each day hoping for a chance,” Otto added. “It is for every teacher, volunteer, and donor who has believed in our mission. And it is for the future we are building—one where education is not a privilege of the few, but a fundamental right for all.”

With this recognition, Slum2School is poised to scale its programs across new regions in Nigeria and the broader continent, expand its digital learning hubs, and deepen its impact through cross-sector collaborations, positioning Africa as a global leader in community-driven, tech-enabled education solutions.
