Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa,

The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) has called on the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to stop the alleged imposition of double taxation imposed on operators of Whitesand Trailer Park, in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the state. The group wants the lawmakers to urgently save the operators from further alleged exploitation by the council.

It would be recalled that the group had earlier petitioned Governor Akinwunmi Ambode over the alleged act. In their letter to the Speaker, HURMA’s Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, said the intervention of the legislators is needed to save the operators from alleged exploitation by the council led by Alhaja Olufunmilayo Muhammed.

The petition partly reads: “We write to intimate you of allegation of exploitation from double taxation on members of the above named park. Also reported at our central office is alleged regular harassment and attacks from hoodlums working for the LCDA for the purpose of illegal money collection.”
