The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has charged its newly inducted members to embrace lifelong learning and personal growth to remain relevant in the evolving professional landscape.

Its 60th President, Chief Davidson Alaribe, made the call during the institute’s 74th induction in Lagos yesterday.

A total of 1,785 members were inducted as Associates of Chartered Accountants (ACAs) at the event.

Alaribe emphasised the importance of staying adaptable and innovative in the face of a rapidly changing professional environment, driven by technological advancements, regulatory shifts, and evolving market demands.

“The professional environment is evolving more rapidly than ever before. It is therefore vital to adapt, innovate, and stay at the forefront of knowledge to remain relevant in an ever-evolving professional landscape,” he stated.

Congratulating the inductees, Alaribe lauded their perseverance and determination in completing the rigorous qualification process.

Quoting Byron Pulsifer, he said: “Imagine, dream, and believe in yourself. With determination and belief, you will be surprised at what you accomplish.”

The ICAN boss reminded them that their admission connects them to a global network of over three million professional accountants under the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), Chartered Accountants Worldwide (CAW), Pan-African Federation of Accountants (PAFA), and the Association of Accounting Bodies of West Africa (ABWA).

He underscored the crucial role of accountants as “unsung heroes” who ensure the financial health and integrity of organisations.

Alaribe urged the inductees to prioritise ethics and honesty.

The Second Deputy Vice President and Chairman of the Membership Affairs Committee, Dr Etofolam Felix Osuji, in his welcome address, described the occasion as a “significant milestone” in the lives of the inductees.
