Igbinedion seeks unity among military, paramilitary outfits
Former governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, has concluded plans to host the second edition of the Kada Unity Football Cup tournament to foster unity among military and paramilitary organisations in the state. At least 10 football teams drawn from both military and paramilitary organisations in Edo State are expected to lock horns in the tournament.
The chairman, Edo State Football Association, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, during a media briefing on Friday, said Igbinedion is the yearly event.
Erhunmwunse, who represented Igbinedion at the media briefing, said the event is aimed at fostering unity among military and paramilitary organisations in Edo State.
He added that in his desire to promote sports development as a sports enthusiast, Igbinedion has continued to show uncommon love for sports. The Edo FA chairman said the tournament would feature 10 football teams in Benin City, which are the Nigerian Police FC, Department of State Security (DSS) FC, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) FC, Fire Service FC and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) FC.
Others are Nigerian Army FC, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FC, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) FC, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) FC, and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) FC. Speaking at the unveiling of the football teams for the Kada Unity Cup competition.
