Igbinedion varsity to honour Tinubu, Jonathan, Abdulsalami during 25th anniversary

Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University Okada, Prof Lawrence Ezemonye on Tuesday said the institution will honour President Bola Tinubu, Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar for their exceptional contributions to the development of the country.

Ezemonye added that Igbinedion University will be celebrating the week-long event with the commencement of a free medical outreach for staff, students, and members of the university community.

Briefing newsmen ahead of activities to herald the 25th Anniversary of the University scheduled for May 10th at the institution’s campus in Okada, Edo State, Ezemonye said the institution has in the last 25 years recorded an uninterrupted academic calendar as the first privately owned university in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the institution remains an uncommon milestone and groundbreaking record for the Founder and Chancellor of the University, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, whose vision birth the first private University in Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape.

“In 1999, history was made with the licensing of the first private University in Nigeria. That University is Igbinedion University Okada, with registration Number 01. By May this year, it will be exactly 25 years since that epochal event.

“The University achieved this significant milestone through the extraordinary vision and mission of the founder and proprietor, Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, Esama of Benin.

“Since inception, the University has achieved remarkable successes in teaching, research, capacity building, innovative studies and perhaps most significantly, the production of exceptional graduates in diverse fields of human endeavors who are contributing their quota to national and global development.

“The attainment of 25 years of corporate existence is a notable landmark worthy of celebration. Thus, the University has planned a grand celebration to commemorate the event. “Ezemonye said.

Ezemonye added that the event will be graced by His Excellency, Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Special Guest of Honour, while His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR will chair the session, and General (Dr.) Abdulsalami Abubakar, GCFR, CSG as Guest of Honour.
