
• Tasks Traditional Rulers On Support For Development
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured residents along the Ijeja-Igbore Road in Abeokuta South Local Council that the link bridge between the two communities will be fully completed and operational by the end of November 2024.
Abiodun made this announcement during an on-site assessment of the ongoing construction work on the bridge.
While addressing residents, the governor pledged that rehabilitation efforts would also be initiated on the entire stretch of the Ijeja-Igbore Road.
“I have inquired about the timeline for the completion of the Ijeja-Igbore Bridge, and the contractor has informed me that it will be finished next month,” he stated.
The governor said that once the bridge is finalised, he would ensure the contractor is mobilised to the Ijeja-Igbore road for its reconstruction.
Abiodun expressed gratitude to the residents for their patience throughout the construction period.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to undertaking projects that significantly enhance the living conditions of the people in Ogun State.
Meanwhile, Abiodun has implored traditional rulers across the state to use their vantage position to contribute to the socio-economic development of the gateway state.
Abiodun, who stated this at the Statutory meeting of Ogun State Council of Obas, held at the Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said that the council is better positioned to engender, unity, peace and harmony as well as the development of its cultural heritage.
Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, Abiodun admonished traditional rulers to leverage the council meeting to interact and cross-fertilise ideas necessary for the prosperity of the people, enjoining them to come up with practicable and improved recommendations necessary for the discharge of good governance in the state.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Council, the Olu and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, appreciated the governor for his unflinching efforts in addressing the welfare of the traditional council and delivering the first tranche of utility vehicles.
Highlight of the meeting was the presentation of Digriculture project by the Associate Professor of International Peace and Security, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, (FUNNAB), Dr. Temitope Olaifa, who sensitised the traditional rulers on the importance of Digiculture in the state.
She emphasised that there is a need to prevent the state’s cultural heritage from going to extinction, revealing that the team was set to develop an application that would help interpret and explore culture.
In his presentation, the new Commandant of Ogun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, Brigadier-General, Alade Adedigba (retd), lauded the traditional rulers for their efforts at ensuring peace in their domains, soliciting for their cooperation to have a grassroots driven security, saying that the governor’s drive for security in the state was to ensure all citizens are safe.
