Ikpeazu inaugurates committee on minimum wage

Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the weekend inaugurated the Joint Negotiation Committee (JNC) on implementation of the new national minimum wage to work out modalities that will enable government to implement the payment for its workers.

While inaugurating the 16-man committee that has the State Head of Service, Onyii Wamah as Chairman at Government House Umuahia, Ikpeazu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu, urged the members to review the issue of ghost workers.

He also charged them to consider the alleged padding of salaries, which he said had made the wage bill too heavy and unrealistic, and recommend ways of finding lasting solutions to them, adding that government was committed to paying the new minimum wage to Abia workers.
