Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Obadiah Mailafia, who had been invited for the third time by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Jos, has disposed himself to martyrdom in the struggle for a better Nigeria.

Mailafia stated this yesterday about 11.10 a.m. on his way to visit the DSS who drilled him till 3.15 p.m. before letting him go.

Before he entered the office of the operatives, he had about five minutes to chat with journalists. He said he was being invited for the third time for reasons not disclosed to him.

However, he believed that the invitations were without political undertone, as his comments were not new – many people had in the past said more without any fuss.

“There was no incident throughout after my interview with them. They invited me through my lawyer and I have decided to honour it as a law-abiding citizen.

“Let me say this clearly; this has nothing to do with politics. I spoke as a citizen who loves this country and the voice of thousands of voiceless people. Muslim youths have taken me as their voice, likewise the Christian youths,” he said.

He acknowledged the prayers, during his travails, of Muslim and Christian clerics “who believe that I am their voice. I have become the voice of the martyrs, the voice of the widows.

“Let us all pray for our country so that peace will return to Nigeria. I thank the DSS; they neither intimidated nor harassed me. Let this be the last invitation. People have said more than this.”
