Indigens of Akokwa Community and the entire Ideato Council of Imo state, has lamented continued silence of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba, on alleged assassination attempt on Spokesperson of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Ikenga Ugochinyere.

Recall that CUPP had threatened to petition foreign missions to secure visa ban on the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma over alleged plot to frame Ugochinyere.
The coalition said it is in possession of an audio recording of how Uzodimma and his aide, Chinasa Nwaneri, threatened to frame Ugochinyere of arson, rape and, then, illegally detain him.

However, Uzodimma, through his Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachukwu, described the allegation as unfounded, saying that he must have woken up from deep slumber with its attendant hallucination.
Reacting, leader of Ideato youths, Patrick Ojeleora, in a statement, yesterday, said the community will not forgive the governor on the alleged threat to the life of Ugochinyere, who is also the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ideato North and South Federal Constituency for next year’s election.

Ojeleora noted that it is a show of shame how proudly the “governor’s aide expressed hatred for Ugochinyere, and plotted to kill him, just because he speaks truth to power.”

While thanking youths for foiling the governor’s thugs plan, Ojeleora said: “In saner climes, the governor and his aides would have been arrested and prosecuted; but it is unfortunate that the IGP has been quiet, and yet to say anything regarding this matter.
“The governor is, therefore, not welcomed in Akokwa clan, as well as the entire Ideato throughout this festive season, unless he tenders apology to Akokwa and Ideato people, and stop the unwarranted harassment of one of their sons, as well as attempts to kill him.

He stressed that Akokwa and Ideato have resolved to elect Ikenga to represent them, because of his capacity and, therefore, can’t watch anybody from Omuma harm a rising star and great asset to the community.
“We are saddened and disappointed with actions of Uzodimma’s government. This is a democratic government; the incessant harassment of Ugochinyere, particularly by Nwaneri, should stop.”
