Imo extra senatorial election takes place tomorrow
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to hold the supplementary election for Imo North Senatorial District tomorrow.
The commission’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the state, Mrs. Ben Okpara, told The Guardian in Owerri that the development followed the inconclusiveness of last weekend’s rerun.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Arinze Agbogu, had declared the polls inconclusive, saying the 8,777 margin between Chief Benjamin Uwajumogu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival and former occupant, Chief Athan Achonu, was inferior to the 13,919 registered voters in the areas where the election is to hold.
Uwajumogu had polled 48,921 votes against the 40,142 tally garnered by Achonu who alleged malpractices.
She disclosed that the exercise would hold in 29 polling units of 20 wards in Isiala Mbano, Amaigbo, Ehime and other areas.
Okpara added that election would also take place in designated polling units in Oru East and Isiala Mbano.
