Inferno at Ooni’s Palace caused by power surge, says Olafare

Director, Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Moses Olafare, yesterday, confirmed that there was a fire outbreak in a building within the courtyard of the palace of the Ooni Of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi.

He confirmed that the outbreak occurred around 11:30p.m. last Friday, adding that the incident was triggered by a power surge, which exploded through electrical appliances in the affected apartment.

He said the inferno did not spread beyond the affected building located at a section of the palace premises as it was swiftly put off through the combined efforts of the State Fire Service, OAU Fire Service and Palace Emergency Control Unit.

He disclosed that there were no records of casualties and injuries from the incident, adding that cultural items were also not lost to the inferno.
