Scores of inmates on Monday evening, escaped from Correctional Centre in Agbor, Ika South Local Council of Delta State, following the collapse of the prison wall.
Sources told The Guardian that the wall collapsed when the wind blew off part of the roof due to heavy rain, which occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
According to them, the flood gathered at the bottom of the wall for hours, even after the rain, hence the wall went down unexpectedly.
The Guardian also learnt that no death was recorded, but some of the inmates escaped in the process.
Following the development, security personnel, which include army, police and others were drafted to the scene to prevent others from escaping.
Contacted, the Delta State Controller of Correctional Centre, Mr. Ovie Friday Esezobor, who confirmed the incident, said there was no death or escape of prisoners.
He said: “At the moment, my men are here with me, soldiers and police personnel are also here,” to manage the situation.
