Insecurity: Barau equips Kano police with 1,000 operational motorcycles
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibril on Saturday flagged off the distribution of 1,000 motorcycles to the men of the Kano State Police Command to enhance their operations.
The provision of the motorbikes came a few months after the Senator representing Kano North disbursed vehicles to the state command to boost its tactical operations.
Unveiling the facilities at the Bompai headquarters of the command on Saturday, Senator Jibril stated that the gesture was to support the police in keeping Kano immune from security threats.
The Deputy Senate President said that the security architecture in Nigeria has significantly improved and lauded the dedication of the police in ensuring the protection of lives and property.
The ranking Senator, who pledged to provide motorcycles to all police officers in Kano to aid community policing in the state, vowed to go the extra mile to sustain a peaceful and secure atmosphere.
Jibril said Kano is among the few states in the entire North West that enjoys peace and is safe from security threats ravaging the region, largely due to the dedication of the police. He stressed that such efforts deserve commendation.
“Kano is among the few states in the Northwest that enjoys peace. We know what’s happening in other neighbouring states. We are very grateful to the police. The country has also improved peace in Kano; we are ready to support the police to sustain the peace we enjoy presently.
“The business of security is not bestowed on the government alone. Indeed, it is a business for all. I call on all stakeholders to support the police because it’s a collaborative and joint venture. The police demand our support with facilities, equipment, and even prayers.
“It is on this note that I brought the operational vehicles, and I promised to do more. I promised to provide all the police serving in Kano North with motorcycles, and this is a promise I have fulfilled. In the next few months, I will be back for Kano Central and Kano South.
“My intention is to provide more operational vehicles and to provide operational motorcycles to all the police serving in Kano to facilitate their operational movement,” Jibril noted.
Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Salman Doggo Garba, said the Senator’s gesture is an investment to strengthen the morale of the police officers and enhance the operational efficiency of the command.
“The significance of this initiative extends far beyond the motorcycles themselves; it speaks volumes about the profound impact that strategic partnerships and community support can have on the effectiveness and vitality of our law enforcement efforts.
“As we embrace this new chapter of enhanced mobility and operational capacity, I urge my fellow police officers to embrace these motorcycles as tools of service excellence. Let us wield them with pride, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to upholding the values of integrity, accountability, and respect for the rule of law,” the CP said.
