The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Samuel Nwanosike, has banned the operation of commercial tricycles with immediate effect across the council area.

In a press statement signed on Tuesday by Chris Omodu, spokesperson to the Nwanosike, the ban was a sequel to the security reports made available to the local government.

Nwanosike said that the ban cuts across all the communities of Ikwerre Local Government.

He asked security agents within the LGA to arrest and prosecute any defaulter according to the law.

The Chairman clarified that the ban is not targeted at anybody or intended to cause hardship to families of the operators and also the public who make use of the services of the tricycle operators.

On 5th June, 2023, Nwanosike banned the operations of motorcycles in Ikwerre LGA within the hours of 7:00 pm to 6:00 am as a means of curbing widespread cult activities within the neighbouring local government areas.
