The Chartered Institute of Project Manager of Nigeria (CIPMN) has informed both foreigners and locals managing different projects in the country that they would not be allowed to supervise projects in the country from next month, without certification and licence from the institute.

CIPMN’s Registrar, Henry Ifeanyi Mbadiwe, who issued the warning yesterday in Abuja at the ongoing 2024 yearly project management conference of the institute, expressed disappointment at the poor level of project managers’ compliance with certification drive despite the establishment of the law since 2018.

Noting that the institute would begin clampdown on unlicensed project managers after due consultation with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government, Mbadiwe stated that the services of unqualified practitioners were responsible for failed and abandoned projects scattered all over the country.

He called on captains of industries and heads of MDAs to key into the agenda and mandate of the institute to reduce the rate of failed and abandoned projects with a view to delivering value for the country.

Speaking in the same vein, the institute’s council chairman, Chief Olabode Afolayan, who lamented the difficulty in getting project managers to adhere to the law, regretted that a lot of lives and resources had been lost over the years to terrible projects nationwide.
