Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Rivers State has called for the election of a governor from the riverine area of the state.

A statement by IPAC state Secretary, Omangima Harry, recalled that Rivers West District and Rivers East District have produced governors, maintaining that for justice, equity and fairness, opportunity should  be given to Rivers South East, this time.

The group also said the call became necessary to address the imbalance in the state’s socio-political space.

The statement reads: “As noble citizens of the state, we must be our brother’s keeper. We must promote and protect that sense of inclusion in the affairs of the state.

“Never must we be clouded by the false and feeble premise that one region is superior to the other, that one brother is more entitled than the other, and that the strength in one area, somehow diminishes the authenticity of another area.”

The group stressed the need to back a Rivers South-East District candidate, one who has developmental roots in the state, and one who is fundamentally connected to their people.

“The riverine area of the South-East Senatorial District is what is fair, equitable and just at this juncture of our state’s history, because it will ensure the much-needed balance in the political and social structure of our dear state” the statement added.

While calling on citizens to support the mandate of rotation, they appealed for support to the candidacy of Siminialayi Fubara of PDP, assuring that  his emergence would resonate the values of equity, fairness, justice and balance.

They commended residents for ensuring peaceful polls during the February  25 presidential elections, urging them to also display same on  March 11 polls.

This is as supporters of Atiku Abubakar, under the aegis of National Mandate Group, expressed support for Siminialayi Fubara, despite the ongoing friction between the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, and the party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

Spokesperson for the group, Lawrence Nwebie, told newsmen in Port Harcourt,  yesterday,  their decision followed a promise by Wike to reintegrate them into the  party system.

“National Mandate Group is a support group for Atiku Abubakar. We took a decision to throw our weight behind Fubara for Rivers governor because politics is all about interest,” Nwebie said.
