The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has rejected calls for the establishment of Ebubeagu security outfit in the five states of the South East region.

President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, had asked governors of the region to set up the Ebubeagu security outfit as agreed at a meeting in Owerri, Imo State, in June this year.

But IPOB disagreed with the suggestion, insisting that the Ebubeagu security outfit would not be able to protect life and property of Ndigbo in the five states.

In a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group said creating the outfit was not in the best interest of the region.

“The attention of IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been drawn to the call by Obiozor for South East governors to re-establish the Ebubeagu security outfit that has never been able to confront the Fulani bandits terrorising our land but only good at humiliating innocent Biafran youths with the collaboration of security agents.

“We want to make it categorically clear to Ohanaeze Ndigbo and its co-travellers that any attempt to establish Ebubeagu security outfit in the South East will further worsen the precarious security situation in the zone.

“They should understand that the Eastern Security Network (ESN) operatives have been sacrificing so much to secure Igbo land. But instead of complementing the efforts of ESN and IPOB to secure and defend our land against Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen, the saboteurs disguising as Ebubeagu security operatives give information on ESN to the Nigeria security agencies,” the statement reads.

IPOB lamented that because of what it described as ‘the treachery of those who parade themselves as Igbo leaders,’ it was not possible for IPOB and ESN to operate with Ebubeagu with an undefined mission.

“The South East governors have ulterior motives in forming Ebubeagu security outfit and we have not seen it as a sincere outfit to secure or protect our mothers, wives and sisters in Biafra land.

“Obiozor and his Ohaneze Ndigbo should not take our calmness for weakness and cowardice. They should not test the will of our people, because we have no confidence in Ebubeagu.”

“From all indications, the formation of Ebubeagu is to counter Nnamdi Kanu’s efforts at Biafra’s restoration. South East governors have no plan to protect our land, but are bent on establishing Ebubeagu to attack ESN and IPOB members. Obiozor and Ohaneze Ndigbo should not set Igbo land on fire,” the statement added.
