It is your responsibility to protect all Nigerians, IGP tells personnel

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has tasked officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to realize that they have the constitutional mandate and responsibility to protect every Nigerian citizens and every other person genuinely residing in the country.

He also charged them not only to be disciplined but also dedicated in their line of duties at all times.Idris, who spoke yesterday in Abuja, at the graduation of Tactical Commanders’ Course, organized by the United States Embassy, specifically told Police tactical commanders that they must see their profession as one that gives them mandatory responsibility to protect every citizen.

The police boss, who was represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Operations,Taiwo Lakanu, noted that no police officer can succeed without discipline, while reminding officers and men of the police that indiscipline has no place in the police.


“As tactical commanders, you know that you have a mandatory responsibility to protect all Nigerian citizens and every other person genuinely residing in the country, because the knowledge you have gained individually and jointly will certainly go a long way in tackling the menace of violent crimes.

“But I must tell you that you cannot succeed if you are not disciplined, and as officers and men of the Force, you are all aware that indiscipline has no place with us,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the United States Embassy for not only sponsoring but also training the tactical commanders for the three weeks course.Participants at the three weeks course were trained in modern terror and crime fighting skills and tactics.
