IWD 2026: Kosofe Women march for strength, pride

Kosofe women celebrating international Women's day 2026

Hundreds of women across Kosofe Federal Constituency in Lagos State on Sunday marked the 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD) with a solidarity walk from Maryland to Kosofe, celebrating women’s strength, unity, and achievements.

The walk was championed by the member of the House of Representatives representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, as part of activities to celebrate women and promote unity among them across the constituency.

The event attracted women from various Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) within Kosofe. Participants moved in groups along the route, chanting, dancing, and waving banners with messages celebrating women’s resilience and contributions to society.

Tagged “Walk Strong, Walk Proud, Celebrate Women,” the event drew women from different age groups who turned out in large numbers to participate in the exercise.

The walk also featured several side attractions. After completing the exercise, participants took part in fun games and interactive activities organised at the finishing point.

Refreshments were served to the women, while raffle draws were conducted, with several participants going home with different prizes.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Oluwatosin Hussein said the walk was designed to encourage women to remain confident, united, and proud of their roles in their communities and workplaces.

She noted that bringing women together through such initiatives helps strengthen relationships among them while also providing an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and contributions to society.

Representing Hon. Ogbara at the event, her Senior Legislative Aide, Damilola Busari, said the initiative was organised to recognise the strength and impact of women while encouraging them to continue supporting one another.

According to her, the celebration was not only about marking the day but also about reminding women of the importance of unity, leadership, and self-belief.

International Women’s Day is observed annually around the world to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while drawing attention to issues affecting gender equality.

The 2026 celebration, themed “Give to Gain,” highlights the importance of mentorship, collaboration, and mutual support among women.
