IYC bemoans military invasion of community in Nembe
The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Central Zone, has condemned the military invasion of Oluasiri community in Nembe, Bayelsa State, saying President Muhammadu Buhari should be held responsible for all that happens in the area.
In a statement, its central zone chairman, Tare Porri, said the military’s provocative action confirms suspicions that it is sectional, and is determined to wage war against the people of Niger Delta and Ijaw.
He said: “The invasion would heighten tensions in the region and could potentially lead to a full-blown siege capable of destabilising the country and the already existing peace created by the government of Henry Seriake Dickson.
“The military insulted us to provoke warfare in our land. We call on the Federal Government to apologise without delay for this infantile act of deliberate provocation.“There could be no justifiable excuses for soldiers to invade and murder an innocent baby. The military must desist from further attempts to muscle Ijaw people, through acts of premeditated assault or intimidation. We also call on our youths to stop perpetrating crimes and criminalities in our communities.”The military invaded Oluasiri community in the early hours of Thursday, June 7, 2018, with about six gunboats of soldiers.
