Janus Cleantech launches electric tricycles to power homes, businesses

Janus Cleantech Solution Limited has unveiled Nigeria’s first passenger and cargo electric tricycles capable of providing electricity to homes, shops, and micro-businesses.

Co-founder of the firm, Dr Olushola Ogunniyi, said the company has developed an integrated ecosystem, combining electric tricycles, Ketekete (passenger) and Ayoka (cargo), with Helia swappable lithium batteries and Sunbread solar charging hubs.

“We are not just building tricycles,” Ogunniyi said. “We are building micro-grids on wheels. Every vehicle and every hub can move people and goods while supplying electricity to households and businesses.”

The company says its solution addresses rising transport costs that consume nearly 60 per cent of daily earnings for Nigeria’s over 4.5 million Keke operators, as well as unreliable electricity affecting more than 80 million people.

The Janus Model features tricycles built for rough roads, Helia batteries (7.2 & 9.6kWh) that double as power banks for homes and shops, and Sunbread containerised solar stations that support battery swaps and community energy access.

Head of Partnerships, Charles Adigwe, added that each hub and tricycle deployment creates jobs, supports women and youth cooperatives, boosts small businesses, and reduces carbon emissions.

Janus Cleantech plans to transition from assembly to full local manufacturing of tricycles and batteries within the next decade, including a proposed Janus Gigafactory. Its long-term goal is to power millions of households and businesses across Africa sustainably.
