The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State governorship election coming up next month, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has assured the youths of a brighter future.

Besides, he has commended the choice of Prince John Ola Mafo, his running mate saying that the selection is a worthy one given his worthy achievement, outstanding political and intellectual credentials.

According to Jegede, if elected governor, he would make youths in the state employers of labour instead of job hunters.

The PDP standard-bearer said his government would give top priority to youth empowerment with the aim of making youths self-reliant and employers of labour.

Speaking at Akure when State government rewarded the 300 athletes who made the state proud at the 2012 National Sports Festival held in Lagos, he pledged that his government would support youths to focus in the direction of self employment with economic independence fit to accommodate others in their respective businesses.

“The time has come for us to make our youths realise their potentials, that they can be useful for themselves and be responsible for the financial fortune of others if given the right environment to thrive.

“The present government in the state has done well in this regard especially as it affects young farmers who have practically become self-reliant through the various Agro business centres in Ore, Auga and Isuada among others.”

The PDP candidate said young graduates with natural calling would be encouraged to fulfill their vocation to grow as well as position them to complement efforts of government in growth and development of the state.

Jegede also hinted of plans to make farming fascinating for practising farmers in addition to wooing those not yet in the sector into the occupation.

He promised total comfort for farmers in the state in and off-season avowing that his government would leverage on the state’s ability to produce cocoa to the advantage of cocoa farmers and make farming more appealing to the youths.

“We will give comfort to farmers, leverage on our ability to produce cocoa and train our farmers on how to produce premium cocoa that will add value to earnings,” he said.

Stressing the importance of youth in the community and country’s development, the legal icon promised to use all instruments of government to persuade the youths to partner with the administration to ensure a united Ondo State where accelerated progress would be recorded.

“We collectively will build a state of our dreams that will be the envy of all as we will ensure necessary steps are taken to ensure sense of belonging that will motivate all to work towards achieving the ultimate goal of taking our dear state to the place of destiny,” Jegede submitted.

Meanwhile, Jegede has congratulated Mafo on his emergence as his running mate.

In a statement made available in Akure, he said Mafo’s emergence derived from a collective decision of all the relevant stakeholders in the party after a consideration of the various options and implications.

“Let me say to you that the process that produced the option of John Ola Mafo as Eyitayo Jegede’s running mate was a fair one; we put in good efforts and weighed the various options before making this choice.

“I appreciate members and leaders of our great Party whose great ideas guided us while the process lasted. Ultimately, it is God who crowns and no man receives anything expect it is given by God.

“Mafo is a good personality who possesses sterling political and intellectual credentials. We will both work to ensure we make Ondo state a better place for all,” he said.

Mafo is a former Commissioner for Information, Youth & Strategy in the state and was hitherto the chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA).

He hails from Zion Pepe, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state and is a Law graduate of the University of Ado-Ekiti. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
