A Lagos High Court judge, Justice Sybil Nwaka, has threatened to send away two registrars from her court for allegedly issuing a reproduction warrant without her knowledge.

Justice Nwaka made the threat when a defendant’s case came up for hearing of a bail application before the court.

The judge claimed that she did not order the production of the defendant, who was identified as Tunde Adewale.

However, the motion for bail was struck out and the defendant was denied bail, as Justice Nwaka insisted that she did not order the production of the defendant and that the substantive matter was not before her.

Also, the judge said she did not even know the charge preferred against the defendant except for the bail application.

Nwaka, who was very furious with the registrars, queried how they could bring a defendant or an accused person on their own without an order of the court.

“I don’t even know the charge against him. It is only the bail application that was brought before me. You sign a reproduction warrant on your own without my knowledge. I am going to send two of you away from this court.

“It is only the judge that has the right to order a reproduction warrant. The substantive matter is not in this court.

“The two (registrars) of you are up to something. My hands are clean. Everyday is for the thief, but one day is for the owner,” the judge averred.

She, therefore, ordered that the defendant be taken to the prison.
