The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called for the constitution of Marital Discord Reconciliation Committees across the state.

He said this at Ajingi Local Government during a sensitisation tour on children and women’s health, girl education and immunisation.

“It is highly un-Islamic and against our culture for husbands to beat their wives. If concrete efforts are not put in place to check the excesses of some husbands, society would continue to decay. We are going round to inform our people on the importance attached to children and women’s health. It is equally important for all of us to understand the significance and obligation of girl education,” he said.

On immunisation, the Emir directed all district heads, village heads, ward heads, Imams and other community leaders to take the issue seriously.

“The only way out of poverty is education. That is why I am always insisting on girl child education. If our girls are not properly educated, they will not be able to train their children. So, giving them education is necessary,” he said.

At the occasion, some development partners gave their support.

Sanusi gave awards to some village heads, women and girls for their diligence and participation in social programmes.
