The Kano State government, at the weekend, kicked off the yearly free Ramadan feeding programme to offer relief to the less privileged in the society. The initiative is to provide meals to over 8,000 residents daily during the breaking of the fast across 91 designated centres within the metropolis.
The state government has set aside N1 billion in the 2025 budget for the daily feeding of residents during the month of Ramadan. Unveiling the daily meal at Dandali Centre, Fagge Local Council of the state, the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, explained that the gesture would last for the next 27 days.
According to him, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) administration, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has institutionalised the initiative to support vulnerable residents through daily iftar meals during the holy month of Ramadan.
Gwarzo, who chaired the special feeding programme, added that the move was in recognition of the state’s large population of Ramadan observers. He stressed the state’s commitment to improving social and economic development.
“Consequently, the government has approved the 2025 Ramadan Feeding Programme, with 91 designated feeding centres across the state. The initiative will cater for 91,000 people daily for 27 days.
“To ensure the effective implementation of this year’s programme, catering service providers have been engaged to prepare and deliver 91,000 plates of food per day across all designated centres,” he clarified.
