
Uneasy calm has taken over the ancient city of Kano as the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) submit their final address before the governorship election petition tribunal today.
The anxiety become evidence following the recent allegation and counter allegation between the two parties over N10 million bribe attempt on the tribunal.
Although, Justice Flora Azinge who accused some lawyers of trying to corrupt the cause of justice did not single out any party, APC and NNPP have never stopped shifting blames at one another.
Armed security men including the police and men of the State Security Service have taken over the miller road venue of the tribunal ahead of the hearing
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, Chief of Staff to Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagir, former Deputy Governor Professor Hafizu Abubakar, Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye are among top government functionaries and NNPP representatives already seated at the tribunal.
On the side of APC, Vice Chairman of the party, Shehu Maigari, the party’s secretary Alh. Zakaria Sarina, former Commissioner for Rural Development and Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso are equally represented.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf of NNPP winner of the March governorship election after defeating Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of APC.
However, the opposition APC has challenged INEC declaration insisted the NNPP candidate did not win the majority vote. In it’s petition, APC urged the tribunal to upturn the governirship election and order for re-rerun.
