Kano PDP leadership denies decamping with Kwankwaso to NNPP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chairman in Kano, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi has denied any plan to join the purported mass defection of members of Kwankwasiyya movement from the main opposition party to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The PDP Chairman, who is a strong pillar of Kwankwasiyya movement and loyalist of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, insisted he and entire executive members of PDP were duly elected and remain in PDP no matter the level of internal turbulent rocking the party.

Sagagi made the clarification in a chat with The Guardian while reacting to Senator Kwankwaso’s political realignment with NNPP ahead of his 2023 presidential ambition.

Although Sagagi category pledged continuous loyalty to Kwankwasiyya ideology, stressed he has never been engaged by the spiritual leader or any member of movement about move to join new political party.

The PDP Chairman attested to clash of interest between Kwankwaso and the National leadership of PDP, however stressed to sustain commitment being nurtured to resolve the crisis, an alternative option Sagagi believed would be better for the party to gain power from the ruling APC.

He cautioned the national leadership of PDP to urgently embark on nationwide reconciliation with major stakeholders and aggrieved party leaders whose defection could rock the chances of PDP in 2023 general elections.

“Let me confirm to you that I remain the PDP chairman in Kano duly elected by the people. I and my executive members are still very much members of PDP. Yes, Kwankwaso is our leader and i fully subscribe to Kwankwasiyya ideology.

Kwankwasiyya is an ideology not a political party and denouncing the movement is equal to ignoring the problem of the downtrodden /Talakawa. I have never been involve in discussing with any political party apart from my party PDP. I only pray PDP national leadership do the needful and prevent Kwankwaso’s decamp because they know the problem and so they should look for the solution,” Sagagi noted.

Meanwhile, the NNPP yesterday announced Umar Haruna Doguwa, a stunt Kwankwasiyya disciple as new acting chairman of the party in Kano. The appointment of Doguwa, a reliable source disclosed, was in ground preparation of NNPP to officially receive Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the party.
