Kano State government has directed immediate suspension of the Managing Director, Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), Dr. Tukur Minjibir, for alleged misappropriation, barely three months after his appointment.
Governor Abba Yusuf instructed Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Abdullahi Bichi, to issue Minjibir a suspension notice dated September 12, 2023.
The embattled KASCO director allegedly sold government-procured grains, behind concern authorities, to private individuals at cheaper rates.
The Guardian gathered that the state government spent millions of naira on the grains to be distributed to poor residents as part of palliatives to cushion the effect of petrol subsidy removal, to complement the Federal Government’s intervention.
Unknown to the authorities, the grains found their way into the market, where they are sold at cheaper prices.
The state’s anti-corruption commission had also accused former KASCO MD, Dr. Bala Inuwa, of misappropriating N4 billion. Inuwa is facing 10 counts bordering on fraud and criminal transfer of public funds to private accounts.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, stated that Inuwa was suspended for alleged involvement in inappropriate sale of grains belonging to the state.
