The family members of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, have expressed their appreciation to people who have, in one way or the other, given exceptional support and dedication to the cause of justice for the IPOB leader since his rendition from Kenya in 2017.

They described Kanu as the head of their family. The family, yesterday, in a statement, titled, ‘Kanu Family Felicitates with Those That Have Stood With Nnamdi Kanu Since His Extraordinary Rendition,’ dated December 23, 2023, particularly recognised those it referred to as “certain renowned South East civil and political leaders.”

The statement, which was signed by Kingsley Kanunta Kanu for the Royal Family of Okwu-Kanu, noted the unwavering and sincere commitment of these people to Kanu’s release from detention.

Kanu’s family particularly thanked the President-General and leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo, the Chairman and members of the Joint Body of South East Traditional Rulers, bishops and archbishops; certain South East governors and members of the National Assembly.

According to the family, the constant interventions of these people and groups “have not only made a difference, but have also inspired and motivated others to see the injustice of the case, and we are genuinely grateful for what you all have done.”

The family also urged those that have been engaging in false and baseless blackmail or accusation against Kanu to relent, but to see such acts as the mischievous workings and betrayals of those that do not wish Kanu and South East well.

Wishing them Merry Christmas and best compliments of the season, the family further said: “We are truly appreciative of everything you all have done; and we look forward to having the opportunity of witnessing the positive outcome of your interventions.”
