Katsina, Kebbi re-open schools next week

Katsina State Government has approved the re-opening of primary and secondary schools across the state from October 5, 2020.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Badamasi Lawal, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen, said students would continue and complete the second term, which was truncated by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) six months ago.

Lawal said the second term was expected to close on October 23, while the third term would run from October 26 to February 5, 2021.

He, however, said that schools would be monitored to ensure social distancing, while staff and students would be made to wear face masks.

Also, Kebbi State Government has announced October 4, 2020, for the full resumption of private and public schools in the state.

The Director, Quality Assurance of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Bena, stated yesterday that the Federal Ministry of Education and Kebbi government approved the date.

Bena, who signed the statement on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Mohammed Aliero, added that all necessary arrangements had been made by the state government to keep COVID-19 at bay.

His words: “We agreed that October 4 should be the resumption date while October 30, 2020, will be the closing date for the third term.”

According to the statement, the first term will run from November 2 to December 18, 2020, and the second term from January 3 to April 16, 2021.

Third term will be from May 3 to August 6, 2021.
