Wife of Kebbi State Governor, Zainab Idris, has called on traditional rulers in the state to support her programmes on girls’ education with ideas and advice that will ensure their success. She made the call, yesterday, when she visited the Emir of Gwandu’s palace in Birnin Kebbi.
The governor’s wife was accompanied by wives of top government functionaries, from the state to the ward level. Promising to prioritise education, with special focus on empowerment of girls, she told the emir that her position as the governor’s wife and her experience would enable her to promote some policies, launch initiatives and engage communities to ensure that every girl in Kebbi got quality education, to foster social progress and gender equality.
While describing the traditional rulers’ fatherly role in any administration as critical, she noted the need for traditional rulers and other citizens to support her programmes.
The Emir of Gwandu, who is Chairman of Traditional Council of Chiefs in Kebbi, Dr. Iliyasu Bashir, appreciated the governor’s wife and her entourage for the visit. Describing education of children, both boys and girls, as bedrock of every society, he assured her of maximum support and cooperation.
