In its efforts to curb the high rate of crime in the state, the Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 45 suspected criminals, comprising 10 kidnappers, three informants and 32 others for various offences.

The suspects were apprehended by men and officers deploy in Operation Puff Adder introduced by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to curb all forms of criminality in the country.

Addressing journalists, yesterday, in Birnin Kebbi, the state Commissioner of Police, Garba Muhammad Danjuma, said the hoodlums were arrested between last month and this month, adding that three suspected informants of the kidnappers were also nabbed during Police operations in Danko Wasagu Council, who specialised in giving information to kidnappers terrorising border towns in Zamfara and Kebbi states.

Danjuma explained that beside arresting the informants, 10 suspected kidnappers were also nabbed along with 32 other criminals with various kinds of weapons, handsets, laptops, cables, knives and cutlasses, who were involved in armed robbery, motorcycle theft, rape, cattle rustling, as well as possession of illegal weapons, Indian hemp and drugs across the state.

The Police chief stressed the need for effective community policing and information sharing with the Command to check criminality in the state, adding that three kidnappers were arrested after collecting N1.4million ransom from one Alhaji Umar Gabuje of Ilozowa village in Koko-Besse Council by a team of the security men at their hideouts.

He stated that Zugrima in Bunza Council has been identified as the base of the criminals and over 200 Police personal have been posted to secure lives and properties in the area and the state at large.

Danjuma assured that the Command would adopt intelligence-led policing approach as cardinal crime prevention plan, urging Area Commanders and DPOs to sustain routinely visit their officers and men in their respective places of deployment.
