A former Secretary to the Federal Government, Babagana Kingibe, the Onitsha Monarch, Obi Alfred Achebe and Sir Emeka Ofor, were yesterday awarded honorary Doctorate Degrees by the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU).

The award was at the 13th Convocation Ceremony of the university, attended by prominent dignitaries including the governors of Enugu and Anambra States.

Also honoured were Obinna Nwagu, Sam Omenyi, Cyprian Oyeka, B.C Egboka, Rose Ebenebe and Ilochi Okafor, who were all uplifted to Professor Emeritus.

Other prominent Nigerians at the ceremony were the Minister of Information Lai Mohamed, Chancellor of NAU, DomGwon Jos, Gyan Buba, Minister of States, Education, Anthony Anwuka, Senator Elect for Anambra South District, Ifeanyi Uba, Victor Umeh and Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan.

Outgoing Vice Chancellor, Joseph Ahaneku reminded the graduates that they were being sent forth to the world to contribute to general development of their environment.

He remarked that in his four years at the university, he had conducted four convocation ceremonies, in addition to several infrastructural development projects, including road construction, building of classrooms blocks and solar energy under construction.
