Knowledge of rights, laws will reduce landlord-tenant conflicts, says expert
A renowned Real Estate expert and legal practitioner, Dr. Prince Williams-Joel, has identified lack of knowledge of tenant rights by people as a major cause of landlords and tenants conflicts in Nigeria.
He stated this at the official presentation of his three books: ‘Understanding Your Rights as a Tenant/Landlord under the Nigerian Law; Real Estate Investment: The Due Deligence Guide; and Compilation of Articles on Law and Property in Nigeria Simplified,’ held in Owerri at weekend.
He faulted the non-existence of laws in most states of the country, including Imo State that regulates relationship between landlords and tenants.
He said: “85 per cent of Nigerians residing in urban areas, live in rented accommodation; hence, the need for constant sensitisation and knowledge of tenant rights and property laws can not be overemphasised.”
