Kwara gov appoints pioneer VC for new varsity of education

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has appointed Professor Medinat Folorunsho Salman as the first Acting Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin.

Professor Salman, a mathematics education expert, was previously a lecturer at the University of Ilorin’s Department of Science Education and served as the coordinator of the Educational Technology Centre.

She holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1985), a Master’s in Mathematics Education (1990), and a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education (1998), both from the University of Ilorin. Notably, Salman is the first female professor from the Ilorin Emirate.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Tuesday, it was noted that “her research interests are mathematics education, gender issues in mathematics and science education, and innovation in mathematics education in the developing world.”

“The appointment is with immediate effect,” the statement said.

The newly established Kwara State University of Education was launched in May 2024, and Professor Salman’s appointment takes immediate effect.
