Kwara poll: Saraki congratulates Abdulrazaq of APC

Senate President Bukola Saraki at Kwara PDP Campaign
The Senate President Bukola Saraki has congratulated Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of the All Progressives Congress who emerged winner of the Kwara State governorship elections.
Abdulrasaq won the March 9 elections with 331,546 votes out of a total of 453, 433 votes. The People’s Democratic Party candidate Razaq Atunwa, backed by Senator Saraki, finished a distant second with 114,754.
“I thank all Kwarans, particularly PDP supporters, who worked for the party in the just concluded elections. My congratulations go to Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq and all those who emerged at all levels. I wish them all the best,” Saraki said in a social media post.
APC defeated the PDP in all contested positions in the state. They won all 24 House of Assembly seats in the state, similar to the February 23 elections where they carted all National Assembly seats.
Saraki lost his bid to represent the Kwara Central Senatorial district to Dr Ibrahim Oloriegbe of the APC in what many considered the end of the stranglehold of the Saraki family on the political affairs of the North Central state.
Following the confirmation of Saraki’s loss, the Senate President congratulated the Oloriegbe over his victory.
Abdulrazaq is now expected to succeed Abdulfattah Ahmed as the governor of the state on May 29.
