Labour gives Abia government ultimatum over workers’ welfare
Major crisis looms between Abia State government and organised labour in the state, as the latter has given Governor Okezie Ikpeazu seven days to address the issue of workers’ welfare.
A copy of labour’s notification letter made available to The Guardian yesterday was signed by the chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Uchenna Obigwe; his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Sunny Onwuma; and state chairman of Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Chris Okoro.
Labour, in the letter, attributed the imminent crisis to the “lackadaisical attitude of the government and its tepid approach to issues pertaining to the upkeep of workers in the state, which has brought a decline to the government/labour relations in the state public service.”
