Lagos APC primaries: Incumbent, newcomers compete as screening begins

The political atmosphere in Lagos State shifted into high gear yesterday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) commenced Day One of its screening exercise for aspirants seeking tickets into the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.

The official schedule revealed intense contests across the state’s three senatorial districts, with experienced incumbents facing stiff competition from a wave of ambitious newcomers.

From the high-stakes battles in Surulere to the crowded fields in Alimosho and Ikorodu, aspirants openly challenged incumbent lawmakers, while many also demanded direct primaries instead of a consensus arrangement.

Lagos West I and II recorded some of the most crowded contests, with several constituencies featuring up to five aspirants or more.

Agege 1 has Oladipo Tunde Shola, Oluwagbenga Michael Abiola, Egunjobi Ganiyu Kola, Jubreel Abdulkareem and Sule Sakiru Akindee in the race.

Agege 2 features Oluokun Azizat Olamide, Azeez Oladapo Yusuf and Oladeebo Olaide Mutiu.

In Ajeromi 1, the contenders are Olumoh Saad Lukman, Dosunmu Bidemi A., Shuaib Fatai Orombo and Tajudeen Adebola Amusa.

Ajeromi 2 has Sabur Akanbi Oluwa, Oluwa Olatunji Fatai and Jimoh Orelope Olatunji L.

For Alimosho 1, the aspirants are Yusuf Sakiru Adisa, Aroguma-Afolabi and Kehinde Joseph.

Alimosho 2 features Onifade Babatunde Semiu, Jimoh Seidu Ogunmodede, Sanuth Muibat Omotunde, Nojim Gbadebo, Adewale Temilope Adedeji and Fagbulu Omownade.

In Ifako-Ijaiye 1, the race includes Ajiboye Afolabi, Lawal Quadri Adewale, Adedira Oluwarotimi Olafusi and Olotu Ojo Emmanuel.
