Lagos asks council to collate worship centres

Lagos State Government has told the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) to calculate the total number of religious centres across the state.

Lagos State Government has told the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) to calculate the total number of religious centres across the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 798 members of the NIREC appointed for the 20 local councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos, the Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr. AbdulHakeem Abdul-Lateef, said one of the functions of NIREC “is to collate the number of religious institutions at the local council level, which should be sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He appealed to members of the group to promote peace within their domain.He also implored them to work closely with the local council chairmen and all other officials at the council level.

The governor advised that whenever issues beyond their capacity crop up at the council, they should not hesitate to relate such to the state NIREC, saying “ the state government is always ready to intervene.
